The Tono region in Gifu prefecture is known for its ceramics, and more than 50% of the nation’s ceramic tableware is produced here.
In this region we find Yamasan Miyake, Ltd., a wholesale producer of ceramics since 1946.
Now operated by the second generation Miyake, the company specializes in “donburi” style ceramic bowls.
Customers of this shop are high-caliber restaurants, whose success comes not only from the role their food plays in attracting customers, but also on the dishes on which the food is presented.
Dishes can be created to the chef’s specifications, with particular care given to the size, texture, color, and shape.
Fired in a variety of glazes all retaining a Japanese sense, these Japanese ceramics are popular as hard to break, environmentally friendly “donburi” bowls.
Yamasan Miyake’s original donburi bowls are offered in all branches of the popular ramen shop, Menya Musashi.
In 2012, the “donburi” was brought to the Menya Musashi Noodle Shop’s Singapore branch, and from October 17, 2013 at the Japanese food trade fair “Oishii! Japan 2013” held in Singapore, there will be a PR campaign to highlight the appeal of the “donburi” bowls.
